Job Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Student Intern to join our team. This internship opportunity will provide valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn from professionals in a community based non-profit where you will have a positive impact on our community.

As a Student Intern, you will have the chance to apply your knowledge and skills in a real-world setting, while gaining insight into the industry.

– Assist in collecting strategic and impactful data for our initiatives.

– Analyze statistics to identify areas where academic attainment and job readiness skills are lacking.

– Provide a data-driven foundation for intervention.

– Monitor and report data ensuring that interventions are not one-size-fits-all but address the unique challenges faced by each community.

– Provide an understanding of community needs using a systematic approach.

– Utilize a targeted approach ensuring that resources are allocated where they are most needed.

-Evaluate our programs or services tailored to the specific needs identified through statistical analysis.

-Impact our community in a manner that is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time based.

– Must have good time management and critical thinking skills.

– Strong written and verbal communication skills.

– Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

– Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

– Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

– Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.

– Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

Five Skill Areas to Develop:

1. Data Analysis and Research Skills:

– The intern will gain proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to identify community needs. This includes utilizing statistical tools, conducting surveys, and synthesizing information from various sources.

– Skills in data analysis will be crucial for making informed decisions, measuring program effectiveness, and providing evidence-based recommendations for community interventions.

2. Program Development and Implementation:

– The intern will acquire hands-on experience in designing and implementing community programs or services. This involves creating program goals and objectives, outlining strategies, and developing a structured plan for addressing low academic attainment and job readiness skills.

– Project management skills will be honed as the intern oversees the execution of initiatives, ensuring that they align with the identified community needs and goals.

3. Community Engagement and Communication:

– Effective communication is essential in community outreach. The intern will develop skills in engaging with diverse community members, stakeholders, and partners. This includes conducting outreach activities, organizing events, and facilitating workshops or training sessions.

– Public speaking, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills will be refined, enabling the intern to effectively convey the purpose and impact of the programs to different audiences.

4. Problem Solving and Critical Thinking:

– The internship will provide opportunities for the intern to address complex challenges related to low academic attainment and job readiness skills. This involves identifying root causes, brainstorming innovative solutions, and adapting strategies based on ongoing evaluation.

– Problem-solving and critical thinking skills will be enhanced as the intern navigates the dynamic and multifaceted nature of community development work.

5. Program Evaluation and Impact Assessment:

– The intern will learn to assess the effectiveness of programs by developing and implementing evaluation frameworks. This includes defining measurable outcomes, collecting and analyzing data on program impact, and adjusting strategies based on evaluation results.

– Skills in program evaluation contribute to a continuous improvement cycle, ensuring that interventions are responsive to the evolving needs of the community.

– Assist with various tasks and projects as assigned by the supervisor

– Conduct research and gather data for specific projects

– Collaborate with team members on assigned tasks

– Attend meetings and take notes as required

– Assist with organizing and maintaining files and documents

– Provide support in preparing reports, presentations, and other materials

– Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills


– Currently enrolled as a student pursuing a degree in human services, social work, education, or sociology. Preferably with experience or background in human services, social work, education, or sociology.
